The city of Lathe, built on the razor thin length of island three miles long but less than 100 yards across. On a clear day, from the taller buildings, those with sharp eyes can see from one end of Lathe to the other – a sharp edge of white towers against the blue-white seas. The very land moves with the waves as they wash over it, corals and barnacles bleached white by the sun even as the other end of the island lays under the waves. Even at night the waves shimmer with a white glow – catching all the colors of Creation in their scintillating hews. Sea birds, fish and sea mammals cry out when they touch these white waves -suffering horrible shacking fits as their muscles spasm – washing up on the Isle exhausted or dead.
Then the currents shift and the Isle leans the other way – homes are flooded, towers sway and life continues.
